Candidate Letter 2011

Candidate Name: Colleen West-Coates

Seeking the office of: Budget Committee

Term of Office: 3 years

Years/months as a Raymond resident: 22 years

Prior experience in municipal service (limit 50 words): 7 years on Budget Committee, 3 years on School Board.
Subcommittees include Capital Improvement, Transportation Commission, Recreation Commission, School Policy Committee, and Ethics.
Volunteer organizations include PTO, Soccer and Baseball fundraising, Girl Scouts, and Odyssey of the Mind.

2011 Question (limit 100 words): How would you reconcile your personal views with your function as a member of your board/office and your charge to represent the best interests of all Raymond citizens?

Voters choose candidates who exhibit the ability to be reasonable, rational and weigh all information prior to making a decision that affects the town. Beyond that, it is important to have breadth of philosophies represented, so that the townspeople may be fairly represented. I feel that I represent those taxpayers who wish to invest in quality education and quality services while balancing a responsible tax base. That philosophy influences my decisions while I weigh the proposals put forth to the budget committee. Others who serve beside me on the same committee, represent and argue for differing philosophies.

Signed: Colleen West-Coates
